Approximately 110 California Squires and counselors attended the 2013 version of the annual State Circle convention at the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo. Although the weatherman didn't cooperate (an understatement, to say the least), the facility was good (except for the stairs... outside!) and the food was excellent, the all-important factor for the Squires when evaluating a convention weekend.
More complete convention information will follow when received from Chairman Mena and the newly-elected state officers.

California’s
State Squire Circle elects new officers for Columbian Year 2013-2014. Elected
were Joseph Mackey of Oceanside as Chief Squire and Nate Garcia of Elk Grove as
Deputy Chief Squire. Elections were held at California State University
Maritime, Vallejo on June 29th.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHO ARE THE COLUMBIAN SQUIRES?
The Columbian Squires, the official youth organization of the Knights of Columbus, is a leadership and character development program for Catholic young men, 10-18 years old.
Founded in 1925, the Columbian Squires is an international fraternity of approximately 30,000 Catholic young men in over 1,400 local parish units, called Circles, throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Panama, Cuba, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guam, and on U.S. military bases abroad.
A Squires Circle is designed to be run by and for young men. Squires have fun, meet new friends, travel, play sports and socialize. Squires are involved in promoting vocations, marching in defense of unborn life, feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, supporting Special Olympics and promoting Catholic education, among countless other activities. Thus, the Squires Circle is an athletic team, a youth group, a social club, a cultural and civic improvement association, a management training course, a civil rights organization and a spiritual development program all rolled into one.
